Skirting Table

I've had this table for almost 20 years now. I picked it up at a garage sale for a couple of bucks. I'm not sure of the original use. The top is split down the middle, with hinges on the outside. Both sides of the top lift up and outward, and you're left with a hole in the middle. I just used it as a work table in the fiber room. Recently I had to rearrange in there, and decided the table must go. I put it on the porch for lack of a better place.

Then I had an idea.

I stapled a piece of chicken wire in the middle, and boom, instant skirting table. I put the fleece on the chicken wire part as I'm skirting, and the crud (vegetable matter, second cuts, dust) falls through while the fleece stays on top. Open, I have a skirting table, and closed, a regular table. Perfect. Well, not quite. It might need a coat of paint, I'm not real fond of the red.

Mom health update: She still has pneumonia, new chest X-ray showed still a shadow/haziness on one lung. We are starting a new, longer round of a stronger antibiotic and see if that knocks it down. Otherwise, she is doing fine.

I'll bet originally it was a sewing table. I have one very like that with the sewing machine still in it.

I, too, think it was a sewing table with a sewing machine mounted in the hole. It might even have had a leaf that opened out to the side at one time.

Really? A sewing table? Maybe the photo is deceiving. It is about two feet wide, three and a half or so long. I only show one side open, they both open like that, from the middle to the outside, and then the top was completely open. If the sewing machine was where the hole is, you would have a foot or more of table to reach over to operate the machine. That seems odd??

Rick, glad the caregiver will have Awol's pup there to placate her when your barks don't suffice. I'm happy to hear a Mom story from you too. And thanks.

"sewing table. no doubt bout it."

ok. i stand corrected. it's obviously a skirting table.

which reminds me of a bbq joint i went to as a kid. they had a hole in the middle of the tables with a trash can beneath. i remember thinking i wish i could sneak my dog in. and then i'd secretly remove the trash can. and no one would ever know...
