Innovation

When you accept delivery of a box that looks like this, look the UPS guy straight in the eyes as you are thanking him.

A friend traveled to Japan for vacation over Thanksgiving. He called (from Japan) to tell me of this great innovation he found there, the warmed toilet seat! Apparently they are very common in the toilets he visited.

The bathroom that Mom uses is in the northwest corner of the house, with two exterior walls. The room is difficult to keep warm, so she sort of jumps/exclaims every time she sits down. When my friend called to tell me of this great thing he had found in Japan, I jokingly (I thought)said "Man, I need one of those for poor Mom!" and told him why.

You do not need to explain to the UPS guy that you have considerate (but slightly crazy) friends who will send you a heated toilet seat when you need one.

Now I call that guy a thoughtful friend! (Or your mom should call him a thoughtful friend.)

The first several years we lived up here in NE Minnesota, we didn't have indoor plumbing so used a very nice outhouse we built. But in the winter time . . . well, talk about cold seats! My mom, living back in Illinois, made us several crocheted toilet seat covers and they worked like a charm. You can bet they were a conversation piece for anyone experiencing our biffy in the colder months.

May your mom get lots of comfort and joy out of her gift! :o)

hahahahahaha. crocheted toilet seat covers. that could well be just the manufacturing idea our economy needs for a jump-start.

(i was tempted to say, "dump-start," but didn't want to be crass.)

euww crocheted toilet seat covers, didn't they get, well you know, grubby? I don't like warm toilet seats, its like someone has just spent ages on it before you.

Hi, Lily - Believe me, I issued special orders about being careful to keep the toilet seat covers . . . well, "un-grubby" but that was why I asked my mom to make several. I changed them every 2-3 days. Needless to say, without plumbing, I went to the laundromat in town to do laundry. While folding the clean wash, the crocheted seat covers caused more than one question from strangers as to what they were. I can laugh about it now, but boy, am I glad those days are over!

lol, hysterical and practical! Our UPS gal discovered we lived in the same town in hawaii as her family, needless to say we now get great service!! She loves to visit, talk story, give biscuits to our ole dog....she would have more than likely asked us to get back to her if it was worth it! lol (you'll have to let us know what mom thinks....sly little smile maybe?)

Awesome! What a great friend! This should add some comfort to your Mom's bathroom experience and maybe even make it easier for you. Who wants to sit on a cold seat?

So Mama Pea, do you still have the outhouse for emergencies?

Annie - Circumstances dictated a move from that first piece of property several years ago. But building a biffy here on our current homestead has been something that's on the To Do list. I've always felt a little "nervous" without it as a back-up, as you suggested!

How awesome is that! Every little bit of comfort helps!

And believe me, I'm sure that UPS man has delivered some stranger packages than that.
