Dreaming

Isn't this the cutest building you ever saw? Oh, maybe it's just me.

It is Craigslist listing that turns out to be only 8 miles away from me. It is 14' by 28', has a second story with a staircase. The roof is bad. No matter, I want it so bad I can taste it.

I am imagining a farm store/studio. Fiber/supplies storage on the second floor, yarn/fiber store on the first floor, with room to spare to hold classes and spinning group meetings. I also imagine my friends sitting around picking guitars, mandolins, autoharp, and a mountain dulcimer or two. A wood cookstove maybe for heat.

I also picture adding a screened porch to one long side, where Mom can sit in bug-free peace looking out over the garden. Yes, I already have the spot to put it all picked out.

Now if only I could also imagine the money to pay for all of it.

Don't let a little thing like "money" stop you- you must have that building- Dreamy indeed! Now is a good time to buy it -the price must me less than usual, right?

I think they should just give it to you on principle.

That would make a wonderful studio. Yes, it's cute.

The building itself I could buy no problem! Figuring out how to get it moved here is the biggest issue right now. My brother is a bricklayer/cement worker, so I would hope that I could rope him into building a foundation, I would just need to come up with materials. Yep, I might be doing more than dreaming at this point, I have sent off an e-mail to see if I can look at it in person tonight. And a couple of e-mails to people who might know building movers. I'm trying not to get too excited though.

I was going to remind you that if you give up hope of obtaining what seems impossible, it for certain will be . . . but looks like you're going full steam ahead and not gonna let anything stop you. Go, girl! What an exciting project to plan for and look forward to. I'm vicariously all a twitter.

I am imagining that porch for your Mom right into reality!

You could hold fiber workshops, or teach knitting classes. You could set up your sock knitting "machine" and have workspace all for that. Oh! The possibilities are endless!

I agree with Mama Pea..... Go Girl!

I've shared this dream! I know how you feel! There are building movers; the house looks like a fairly simple move. It is compact. They might have to "drop the roof" but that isn't really a problem since it needs to be replaced anyway. Dropping the roof is what they do to lower the profile to get under powerlines and overpasses and such. How far from you is the house? What is in route? Problematic things are urban areas (where a permit has to be obtained, at least around these parts) and overpasses, railroad crossings, narrow bridges, trees with branches spreading over the road...If you have none of those in the way, it should be simple and not really that expensive. But, any of those obstacles can add a lot to the difficulty and the cost. Your dream sounds inspired, though. Pursue it!

Only 8 miles, I see that, sorry I missed it. That does sound promising. So, what is in that 8 miles. Drive it. Document it. 14 wide is barely oversized. 28 high is not awful, but if there are trees or low wires... I don't think dropping the roof in this case will lower it because of the style. Sometimes when a house is too tall they cut in in half in the middle and move it in two pieces a nd then put them back together. That is more costly.
