Art of Alzheimer's

I wasn't sure if I should include this. Then I realized that as her world gets smaller, she is still creating art with what she can reach. She isn't walking much anymore, so I try to have a variety of things she likes on her little tray table in front of her. She chose to carefully arrange them on the table. This piece was disassembled within seconds of taking this photo.

Your mom is amazing. Her eye for arrangements shows a definite artistic bent. Hugs to you Annie, and to your mom. I'm thinking of you both.

I envy her eye for composition. My thoughts are with you both.

Annie, it's obvious your mom is a pretty talented artist and you too are gifted with recognition, both of her arts and her needs. My mom also loses interest soon after significant engagement sometimes. Thanks for posting this picture, reminds me to make things available for my mom. Take care

Saw your photos on Pioneer Woman's site and they are so beautiful. I sent in a bokeh photo, too. My husband's father in Minnesota is in a care facility for Alzheimers and my friend, age 53, is in a care facility now. I visit her regularly here in Oregon, though she doesn't recognize me. It doesn't matter to me, for she is sooo special. Joyce R.

Hello, Annie, I have come back to these pictures so many times in the last month since I found them. They say so much what I am trying to say to coworkers and families: Alzheimers art is its own language but it is a door that cracks open where family can glimpse the part of the self that is intact, unaffected by the illness.
I work with a day enrichment program and I have become obsessed with all kinds of art as a means to communicate. Can you say this better than me? Thank you so much for taking the pictures and sharing them and your thoughts.

Bless you, my dear for not forgetting that the is art in everyday things. Bless you also for being a caregiver. 7 years with my Mum, it is a challenge, TAKE CARE OF YOU.

Yes, take care of you. The not walking part does not sound so good. Hope that you both are well.
